Press Release: Cold Calling Beats AI-Written Emails 6 to 1, Yet 39% of Sellers Fear the Phone

Qualified Prospect

New research from ValueSelling Associates and Selling Power reveals that cold calling remains significantly more effective than AI-assisted personalized emails for B2B prospecting. Among 153 sales leaders and representatives surveyed, 47% rated cold calling effective, compared with just 8% for AI-assisted emails. Client referrals ranked highest at 74%, followed by social selling at 40%. Despite cold calling's effectiveness, sellers continue to face challenges. Forty-six percent of sales leaders say representatives give up too easily, 40% report difficulty handling objections, and 39% identify fear of picking up the phone. Findings closely mirror research conducted in 2018, suggesting that advances in sales technology have not eliminated fundamental prospecting challenges. The study emphasizes the importance of developing seller confidence, persistence, and communication skills through consistent training and coaching. AI can support prospect research, personalization, and preparation, but human interaction remains essential for building relationships and generating new business opportunities.
